Columbus Story Adventures
Columbus Story Adventures has been searching out and working with organizations and kids in Columbus for four years. We are a large group of SOCO members, many who are members of Artists In Schools. All of us have experience and passion for telling stories to and with children.
When a camp, center or school engages us, the staff of each organization participates in an informative workshop, and receives an idea-filled handbook to use before and after CSA visits. Once a week for six weeks a storyteller visits; that teller spends 45 minutes telling stories to the children. Storytelling sessions are followed up with workshops for the participants; these workshops build on the story or stories told, as well as on the activities in the CSA handbook. The workshops allow the children to respond by writing or telling their own stories. Columbus Story Adventures also provides a free book for every child after every visit
The oral tradition is a personal medium. It works eye-to-eye and heart to heart. We believe that storytelling can provide an excellent in-road to writing speaking and listening.
CSA has worked with the Dowd Center for Homeless Children for three years consecutively. We have also worked with Ohio Hispanic Coalition and for two years we have worked with St. John's Learning Center.
This year as a fundraiser for the summer programs of 2010, we are planning a luncheon, performance and silent auction on Saturday, April 17 from 11:30 to 3:30. The cost for the event is $20 a person and $35 for a couple. Please click here for more information.
